On March 13, 2025, Exela Pharma Sciences, LLC recalled two lots of 8.4% sodium bicarbonate injection, USP 50mEq/50mL. There is a risk that a defective crimp on the vial could impact the sterility and purity of the drug. Sodium bicarbonate injection is an alkalinizing agent that is used to balance pH levels in body fluids for certain medical conditions or to replace lost electrolytes if someone is dehydrated.
